Pakistan Rejects Foreign Disinformation Campaign Targeting Iran–US Mediation Role

Pakistan has strongly rejected what it describes as a foreign-backed disinformation campaign aimed at undermining its diplomatic role in facilitating dialogue between Iran and the United States.

Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stated that a coordinated negative information campaign has been circulating in recent days, allegedly originating from external sources with the intent to create confusion and spread misleading narratives.

According to Tarar, the campaign relies heavily on unnamed sources and distorted information to discredit Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and stability. He emphasized that such attempts reflect the frustration of those opposed to diplomatic solutions.

The statement came in response to a report by CBS News, which claimed that Pakistan had allowed Iranian military aircraft to be stationed at Nur Khan Airbase. Pakistan’s Foreign Office categorically rejected the report, calling it misleading and clarifying that no such military arrangement exists.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi also addressed reports suggesting that China had asked Pakistan to “do more” in its mediation role. He dismissed these claims, explaining that discussions with Chinese officials were held in a cordial and supportive environment, without any pressure or demands.

The spokesperson further clarified that Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement with global partners, including China, is focused on promoting peace through dialogue rather than coercion.

Pakistan has recently positioned itself as a key mediator in easing tensions between Iran and the United States, engaging in multiple diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation. The country maintains that dialogue remains the only viable path toward sustainable peace in the region.

Despite criticism from some international figures, including US Senator Lindsey Graham, Pakistan’s mediation role has also received support from global leaders, including former US President Donald Trump.

Officials reiterated that Pakistan will continue its diplomatic efforts and work alongside international partners to foster stability, while also countering misinformation campaigns aimed at undermining its role.

The government also praised Pakistani media and digital influencers for actively countering false narratives and ensuring that accurate information reaches the public.
