Doctor Warns of Summer-Related Skin and Stomach Ailments, Urges Preventive Measures

A health expert has warned the public about the increased risk of skin and stomach-related ailments during the summer season, urging people to take preventive measures to protect their health.

Dermatologist Dr Kashif Ahmad Malik highlighted that rising temperatures, excessive sweating, and poor hygiene are among the key factors contributing to various seasonal health issues. He explained that skin conditions such as rashes, irritation, and infections tend to become more common during hot weather, while stomach problems may arise due to poor dietary choices and heat exposure.

According to the specialist, many of these issues can be avoided by adopting simple lifestyle changes. He advised wearing light-coloured and loose clothing, as dark colours tend to absorb more heat and increase body temperature, leading to discomfort.

Dr Malik also cautioned against consuming foods with artificial colouring, stating that such items can irritate the digestive system, especially during extreme heat, and may lead to stomach-related illnesses.

Hydration plays a crucial role in maintaining overall health during summer. The expert recommended increasing water intake and consuming traditional drinks like lassi to keep the body cool and prevent dehydration. Proper hydration also helps regulate body temperature and reduces the risk of excessive sweating that can trigger skin irritation.

In addition, the dermatologist advised limiting direct exposure to sunlight and avoiding prolonged periods in hot environments. Excessive heat exposure can lead to sunburn, clogged pores, and skin infections.

Personal hygiene was another key point emphasized by the expert. He strongly advised against sharing personal items such as towels and combs, as this can spread bacteria and fungal infections. Maintaining cleanliness and following basic hygiene practices can significantly reduce the risk of both skin and stomach ailments.

Overall, the expert stressed that awareness, proper hydration, cleanliness, and protection from heat are essential to staying healthy during the summer months.
