Law enforcement agencies have arrested a suspected militant linked to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during a joint operation in Karachi’s SITE area. The raid was conducted by Pakistan Rangers in collaboration with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), according to official statements.
The suspect, identified as Noor Alam alias Wafadar, was taken into custody during the operation. Authorities reported that weapons and explosives were recovered from his possession, indicating potential involvement in militant activities.
According to the Rangers, the arrested individual is a resident of South Waziristan and has alleged links to militant networks associated with the TTP. Officials stated that he had joined a militant group led by Mufti Noor Wali in 2014 and had reportedly participated in multiple attacks on security forces’ check posts.
Investigators revealed that the suspect had previously fled to Afghanistan following military operations in South Waziristan and later returned to Pakistan, where he remained in hiding in Karachi. Authorities further claimed that he was attempting to reorganize a militant network in the city under instructions from accomplices based abroad.
The Rangers stated that the suspect had confessed to involvement in improvised explosive device (IED) attacks alongside associates, who are still at large. Security forces have launched further raids to apprehend these accomplices.
Following the arrest, the suspect was handed over to the CTD police for legal proceedings. The operation highlights ongoing efforts by Pakistani law enforcement agencies to dismantle militant networks and maintain security in major urban centers.
The case underscores the continued vigilance of security forces in countering terrorism threats and preventing potential attacks through intelligence-based operations.
