The owner of the popular dessert chain Wafflix was found dead in Karachi just days after he was allegedly abducted from his home in the city’s PECHS area. The tragic incident has shocked residents and sparked renewed concerns about public safety and the rising crime rate in Karachi.
The victim was identified as 25-year-old Mir Raza Ali, son of Mir Hassan Ali. He lived in PECHS Block 2 and operated the well-known Wafflix outlet near Bahadurabad Chowrangi.
According to police, Raza Ali’s body was recovered from bushes near Shadi Qila Wedding Hall in Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 1 on Wednesday. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for a post-mortem examination.
Investigators said the body appeared to be one to two days old and had visible burn marks, making identification difficult. His father was reportedly able to identify him through his clothing. Police also found a mark on the victim’s back, while officials said the exact cause of death would be confirmed after the post-mortem report.
According to Ferozabad Police, preliminary investigations suggest that Mir Raza Ali may have been tortured before being shot. Station House Officer Kamran Qureshi said investigators are collecting CCTV footage from cameras installed near the wedding hall to identify those involved in the crime.
A kidnapping case had already been registered at Ferozabad Police Station after Raza’s father filed a complaint. According to the FIR, Raza returned home from his shop during the night of July 27–28. At around 4:00 AM, he informed his mother that he was stepping outside for approximately 10 minutes but never returned.
When family members were unable to contact him because his mobile phone was switched off, they searched for him and contacted Madadgar 15 before approaching the police. A case was registered against unidentified suspects, and authorities launched an investigation into the alleged kidnapping and murder.
The death of the young entrepreneur has triggered an outpouring of grief on social media, with friends, customers, and members of the business community expressing condolences. The incident has also reignited public concerns over law and order and security in Karachi.
