AJK Police Chief Urges Overseas Kashmiris to Trust Official Sources
Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Inspector General of Police (IGP) Capt (R) Liaqat Ali Malik has urged overseas Pakistanis, especially members of the Kashmiri diaspora living in the United Kingdom and Europe, to rely only on official government sources for information amid growing concerns over misinformation and hybrid warfare.
Speaking at a press conference in Muzaffarabad, the AJK police chief stressed that fake news, manipulated videos, and AI-generated content are increasingly being used to spread confusion and create unnecessary panic. He encouraged both local residents and overseas Kashmiris to verify all important information through official government websites and verified social media accounts before believing or sharing it.
Warning Against Misinformation
According to IGP Liaqat Ali Malik, the spread of false information has become a major challenge during sensitive situations. He explained that misleading reports on social media and some media platforms can create unnecessary fear among the public and damage trust in official institutions.
The police chief stated that the government is actively monitoring misinformation campaigns and urged citizens to avoid forwarding unverified news.
Entry Points to AJK Remain Open
The AJK police chief rejected reports claiming that entry points into Azad Jammu and Kashmir had been closed.
He clarified that all major routes, including Kohala, Azad Pattan, and Bararkot, remain open for all kinds of traffic. Essential goods, commercial vehicles, and passenger transport continue to enter the region without restrictions, except for routine security checks carried out by law enforcement agencies.
Officials emphasized that there has been no government order to block traffic entering the territory.
Government Responds to BBC Urdu Report
During the press conference, Liaqat Ali Malik also referred to a recent report published by BBC Urdu.
He claimed the report contained unverified allegations and was published without obtaining the government’s official version of events. According to the police chief, government officials had already clarified the situation during an earlier press briefing, and the administration’s position had also been shared through official fact-checking platforms.
He urged media organizations to verify information with the AJK Police Public Relations Office before publishing sensitive reports.
Call for Responsible Journalism
The police chief encouraged both local and international media organizations to ensure responsible journalism by confirming facts before broadcasting or publishing reports.
He also advised media outlets to avoid using anonymous social media videos or unverified online material without proper investigation.
According to officials, accurate reporting is essential to maintain public confidence and prevent unnecessary unrest.
Strike Continues in Some Areas
The press conference took place while a strike called by the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) continued in parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Reports indicated that internet services remained suspended in several areas, while some petrol stations were closed following government directives.
Although daily life continued normally in several districts, partial shutdowns were observed in Muzaffarabad and Poonch divisions.
Government Action Against Employees
Authorities also confirmed disciplinary action against several government employees accused of participating in protests linked to the banned organization.
Officials stated that employees found violating government service rules could face suspension or further disciplinary proceedings.
The administration said maintaining law and order remains its top priority while continuing efforts to restore normalcy across the region.

Government officials reiterated that official communication channels remain the most reliable source of information during periods of uncertainty.
