CDA to Start Demolition in 12 More Bari Imam Villages Amid Rising Resident Concerns

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is set to expand its anti-encroachment operation in Bari Imam, planning demolition in 12 additional villages after completing action in 14 localities of Bari Imam and Noorpur Shahan.

Authorities have already cleared areas including Malpur and Noori Bagh despite strong resistance from residents. The next phase of the operation will target villages such as Dori Bagh and Opera Shar, with full administrative and police arrangements finalised.

Residents in the affected areas have raised serious concerns, claiming that the government is treating all landholders equally as encroachers, regardless of their legal status. According to locals, four different categories of residents exist in Bari Imam — including long-time settlers, compensated landholders, occupants from earlier regimes, and those who purchased land with registered documents.

Following demolitions, many families were seen removing household belongings and salvaging materials like doors, windows, and furniture. Reports suggest that central markets near the Bari Imam shrine have already been demolished, with further action planned until April 30.

After this phase, the operation is expected to extend to informal settlements in sectors I-9 and F-6, where residents have been issued notices to vacate within two months.

This large-scale demolition drive is part of CDA’s broader effort to remove encroachments in Islamabad. However, the move has sparked debate over land ownership rights, fairness, and the humanitarian impact on affected families.
