RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s transfer to a private hospital in Islamabad remained pending on Tuesday night as the Adiala Jail administration had reportedly not received the official copy of the Supreme Court’s written order.
According to sources, the delay in receiving the court order meant that arrangements for Khan’s transfer could not be completed.
The Supreme Court has ordered that Imran Khan be shifted to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad under security and protection. A medical board will oversee his treatment, while his personal doctor and sister, Dr Uzma Khan, will also be allowed access.
The court’s order also permits meetings between Khan and his sisters and other family members, subject to conditions intended to prevent the meetings from being used for political or media activities.
Imran Khan is not being sent abroad. He is expected to remain in Pakistan and receive medical treatment at a hospital in Islamabad under security arrangements.
The issue of Khan’s medical treatment and access to family members has remained under discussion for several months. PTI had previously requested that he be transferred to a hospital of his choice and allowed access to his personal doctors.
The matter eventually reached the Supreme Court, where Imran Khan and his sister Dr Uzma Khan sought his transfer to Shifa International Hospital and access to his own medical team.
The latest court decision provides a legal framework for his medical treatment outside Adiala Jail and sets conditions for family access.
The development has also generated political speculation regarding relations between the government and PTI. However, sources have clarified that the court-approved transfer concerns medical treatment within Pakistan and does not involve sending Imran Khan abroad.
