A K2 Airways Boeing 737 cargo aircraft operating as Flight KTA-1732 has gone missing off the coast of Karachi after reporting a navigational system problem during its journey from Sharjah to Karachi. The aircraft was carrying five crew members at the time of the incident.
According to the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), the crew contacted the Karachi Area Control Centre (ACC) at approximately 9:18 PM PST to report a navigational issue. Air traffic controllers immediately provided assistance and guidance. However, just three minutes later, radar data showed the aircraft making an unexpected right turn before entering a rapid descent. Communication with the aircraft was subsequently lost around 155 nautical miles west of Karachi.
Flight tracking information indicated the aircraft descended at an exceptionally high rate before disappearing from radar. The final ADS-B transmission placed the aircraft at an altitude of around 1,100 feet with a reported vertical descent rate exceeding 22,000 feet per minute. Multiple attempts by air traffic controllers to re-establish communication were unsuccessful.
Following the loss of contact, the Rescue Coordination Centre activated a comprehensive search and rescue operation involving multiple maritime and aviation agencies. Authorities are working to locate the missing aircraft and its crew while coordinating search efforts in the Arabian Sea.
The aircraft involved has been identified as a Boeing 737-400 freighter registered as AP-BOI. Aviation authorities have confirmed that a full investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the incident. Investigators will examine radar recordings, flight tracking data, air traffic control communications, cockpit transmissions, and other available evidence to establish the sequence of events leading to the aircraft’s disappearance.
The incident has raised serious concerns within Pakistan’s aviation sector, with officials pledging a thorough investigation once search and recovery operations are completed.
