Opposition Alliance Criticises Govt Over Inflation, Fuel Prices and Load Shedding

Leaders of Tehreek Tahaffuz Aain-e-Pakistan (TTAP) have strongly criticised the government’s economic policies, raising concerns over rising inflation, fuel pricing and worsening electricity outages across the country.

Speaking at a press conference, Salman Akram Raja said Pakistan was facing extremely challenging economic conditions, with ordinary citizens—especially low-income groups—struggling to meet daily expenses. He questioned the government’s ability to provide relief and stressed that the opposition would continue highlighting these issues.

Raja also defended the cancellation of the April 9 rally, stating that it was done in the interest of peace diplomacy and ongoing international engagement. He added that political leadership prioritised maintaining stability during sensitive diplomatic efforts.

Former governor Muhammad Zubair criticised fuel pricing policies, alleging that oil companies benefited unfairly from price fluctuations. He claimed that petroleum purchased at lower international rates was sold domestically at higher prices, placing additional burden on the public.

Meanwhile, Taimur Jhagra highlighted issues in economic management, stating that the government had failed to stabilise fuel prices and control inflation. He also pointed to increasing power outages, claiming that load shedding in some regions had reached severe levels.

Opposition leaders argued that the current situation reflects broader structural problems in the economy, including weak governance, rising costs of living and energy sector challenges. They warned that without effective reforms, public hardship could continue to grow.

The criticism comes at a time when Pakistan is already facing pressure from global oil price fluctuations, making economic stability a major concern for both policymakers and citizens.
