Pakistan’s security forces acted swiftly to silence unprovoked cross-border firing initiated by the Afghan Taliban along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, particularly in the Torkham and Tirah sub-sectors.
According to Mosharraf Zaidi, spokesperson for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Afghan Taliban regime opened fire without provocation, prompting an immediate and effective response from Pakistani forces.
He stated that Pakistan’s security personnel acted decisively to neutralize the aggression and warned that any further provocation would be met with an immediate and severe response. He reaffirmed that Pakistan would continue to protect its citizens and safeguard its territorial integrity at all costs.
Escalating Border Tensions
The development comes amid heightened tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan following recent intelligence-based operations conducted by Pakistan against suspected militant hideouts in Afghanistan’s border provinces.
Pakistan has maintained that terrorist groups, including the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also referred to by the state as Fitna al-Khawarij, have been operating from Afghan territory to launch attacks inside Pakistan.
According to official statements, recent military operations targeted camps linked to militants in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar and Paktika provinces after a series of deadly attacks inside Pakistan, including incidents in Islamabad, Bajaur, and Bannu.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reiterated that terrorists were exploiting Afghan soil to plan and execute attacks against Pakistan. The military emphasized that operations would continue against perpetrators of such acts, regardless of their location.
International Concerns and UN Reports
Recent reports by the United Nations Security Council’s monitoring teams have also highlighted an increase in cross-border attacks and the presence of TTP elements operating from Afghanistan. Pakistani officials have repeatedly urged the Afghan Taliban administration to dismantle sanctuaries used by militant groups.
Islamabad maintains that its actions are precise and targeted against terrorist elements and not directed at Afghan civilians. Authorities stress that national security imperatives require proactive measures to prevent further loss of life.
