PM rebukes Islamabad officials over Independence Day buggy ride

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed serious displeasure over the use of a ceremonial buggy by Islamabad Chief Commissioner Lt. (Retd.) Sohail Ashraf and IG Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi during the August 14 Independence Day celebrations. The officials used a ceremonial carriage belonging to the Prime Minister’s House to attend and observe the parade.

The Prime Minister’s Office said the display was inconsistent with the principles of simplicity, humility and dignity expected from senior public servants. The incident attracted criticism over what was viewed as unnecessary protocol and an inappropriate display of privilege.

Following the Prime Minister’s directions, the Establishment Division issued formal warnings to both officials and instructed them to avoid unnecessary protocol, exhibitionism and self-promotion at official events. The officials were also directed to ensure that similar conduct does not occur in the future.

The Prime Minister stressed that public office should reflect service, responsibility and accountability rather than privilege and ceremonial extravagance.
