BISP Budget Increased to Rs838 Billion in Federal Budget 2026-27

The federal government has significantly increased the allocation for the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), raising its budget to Rs838 billion in the Federal Budget 2026-27. The move reflects the government’s continued commitment to strengthening social protection and supporting low-income households across Pakistan amid ongoing economic challenges.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb announced the enhanced allocation during the presentation of the federal budget, emphasizing the importance of expanding financial assistance for vulnerable segments of society. According to official budget documents, the BISP budget has risen from Rs716 billion in the previous fiscal year to Rs838 billion for the upcoming year, representing an increase of approximately 17 percent.

The expanded funding is expected to increase the programme’s outreach and provide greater support to deserving families struggling with the effects of inflation and rising living costs. Through direct cash transfers and welfare initiatives, BISP has remained one of Pakistan’s largest social safety net programmes, playing a vital role in poverty alleviation and financial inclusion.

Government officials stated that the additional allocation would help improve beneficiary coverage and ensure timely disbursement of assistance. The enhanced budget also demonstrates the state’s recognition of the need to protect economically disadvantaged communities during periods of economic adjustment.

The Benazir Income Support Programme continues to serve as a cornerstone of Pakistan’s social welfare framework. The latest increase in funding is expected to strengthen efforts aimed at reducing poverty, improving household resilience, and providing essential financial relief to millions of deserving citizens across the country.
