Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed that Pakistan and Azerbaijan share strong brotherly relations, emphasizing that bilateral ties between the two countries continue to grow with time.
The prime minister conveyed his warm greetings to Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev during a meeting with Azerbaijan’s Justice Minister Farid Turab Oglu Ahmadov in Islamabad. He recalled his recent conversation with President Aliyev and highlighted the steady progress in cooperation across multiple sectors.
During the meeting, both sides discussed ongoing collaboration in legal and judicial fields, including strengthening mutual legal assistance and enhancing institutional capacity. The Azerbaijani minister appreciated Pakistan’s hospitality and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his desire to meet President Ilham Aliyev soon to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest, underlining the importance of continued engagement between the two nations.
Housing reforms and digitisation focus
In addition to foreign relations, the prime minister also chaired a high-level meeting focusing on reforms in Pakistan’s housing sector. He stressed the urgent need to address challenges arising from rapid population growth and unplanned urban expansion.
Shehbaz Sharif directed authorities to promote affordable housing, particularly for low-income groups, while encouraging private sector participation. He also called for the digitisation and automation of housing-related processes to enhance transparency and efficiency.
The prime minister highlighted the importance of introducing a proper regulatory framework to attract overseas investment and ensure sustainable growth in the real estate sector. Proposals discussed during the meeting included simplifying regulations, implementing a one-window system, and promoting vertical urban development through high-rise construction.
Key cabinet decisions
The federal cabinet also reviewed several important matters, including wheat trade issues and the Hajj Policy 2027–2030. Measures were approved to strengthen accountability mechanisms for Hajj operations and ensure better services for pilgrims.
Additionally, the cabinet approved the development of a low-cost housing project in Islamabad’s Farash Town to support residents of informal settlements. The project aims to improve living standards through affordable housing initiatives.
Overall, the developments reflect Pakistan’s dual focus on strengthening international partnerships and implementing structural reforms to support economic growth and urban development.
