Pakistan–UAE Ties Strong and Brotherly, Based on Trust and Resilience: Foreign Office

Pakistan has reaffirmed that its relationship with the United Arab Emirates remains strong, brotherly, and firmly rooted in mutual trust and resilience, dismissing recent reports suggesting tensions between the two countries.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi stated that there is “absolutely no question” of any strain in ties between Islamabad and Abu Dhabi, emphasizing that the relationship continues to thrive regardless of external developments.

He highlighted that Pakistan and the UAE share a deep-rooted partnership, supported by a 2.2 million-strong Pakistani diaspora living in the Gulf country. The two nations also maintain strong economic cooperation, with bilateral trade reaching approximately $8 billion.

The clarification comes amid media reports alleging large-scale expulsions of Pakistani workers from the UAE. However, Pakistani authorities, including the Interior Ministry, have categorically denied these claims, describing them as misleading and unfounded.

Regional diplomacy and dialogue

The Foreign Office also commented on regional developments, expressing optimism over calls within India for dialogue with Pakistan. Andrabi noted that such voices are encouraging and could help pave the way for constructive engagement and reduced tensions in the region.

He reiterated Pakistan’s stance that diplomacy and dialogue remain the only viable paths to sustainable peace, especially in the context of ongoing regional challenges.

China–Pakistan cooperation clarified

Addressing reports related to China, the spokesperson rejected claims that Beijing had asked Pakistan to “do more” in mediating between Iran and the United States. He clarified that discussions between Pakistani and Chinese leadership were conducted in a spirit of mutual respect and cooperation.

According to Andrabi, China has instead expressed support for Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and appreciated its role in facilitating dialogue and promoting regional stability.

Somalia piracy crisis and Pakistani nationals

The Foreign Office also provided an update on Pakistani nationals held aboard a hijacked oil tanker near Somalia. Andrabi confirmed that the individuals remain in captivity but are safe and receiving food, although conditions remain difficult.

He said Pakistan is actively engaged with Somali authorities and continues diplomatic efforts to secure the safe release of its citizens. The situation has been described as a pressing humanitarian concern.

Pakistan remains committed to strengthening its international partnerships while playing a constructive role in regional diplomacy, focusing on dialogue, cooperation, and stability.
