From the moment Maryam Nawaz took charge as Chief Minister of Punjab, she swiftly initiated measures to curb inflation. Her meeting with the Saudi trade delegation marked a significant step in boosting investment in Punjab. Moreover, she has already announced the distribution of tablets and e-bikes to the province’s talented female students. It is indeed Punjab’s fortune to have a seasoned leader like Maryam Nawaz, who, upon assuming her role, immediately embarked on countless initiatives aimed at the prosperity and advancement of the province.
Maryam Nawaz hails from a political dynasty with an indelible legacy in Pakistan’s political history. Her father, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, served as Chief Minister of Punjab twice and was thrice elected as Prime Minister of Pakistan. Additionally, her uncle, Shehbaz Sharif, also held the office of CM Punjab and later ascended to the position of Pakistan’s Prime Minister, a role he continues to fulfill to this day.
Upon taking office, Maryam Nawaz gave her cabinet a 100-day target and undertook revolutionary measures. During this period, she made unannounced visits to various public institutions across Punjab, closely monitoring their conditions. In her unwavering commitment to public welfare, she prioritized alleviating inflation and unemployment. Maryam Nawaz personally inspected tandoors (local bread shops) across different cities, checking the weight and quality of the bread being sold. Using her special authority, she reduced the price of bread (roti) from 20 rupees, bringing it down to 14 rupees. She also ordered significant price reductions for naan, flour, sugar, oil, pulses, and other essential commodities, offering immense relief to the lower and middle-income segments of society.
When Maryam Nawaz assumed her position as Chief Minister, the holy month of Ramadan was just days away. In anticipation of this sacred month, she announced Ramadan package on behalf of the Punjab government, instructing the finance department to immediately allocate a substantial amount of 30 billion rupees for its implementation. This package benefited 6.5 million households and over 35 million individuals across the province.
In the healthcare sector, which has long demanded government attention, Maryam Nawaz brought historic reforms by establishing field hospitals for the first time. These hospitals provided healthcare services directly to people’s doorsteps. Under her leadership, specialized care for cardiac patients was also initiated, benefiting numerous individuals in need.
Maryam Nawaz continues to implement swift and revolutionary measures to stabilize Pakistan’s economy. Recently, a major Saudi trade delegation visited Pakistan and met with Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz. During this meeting, she reassured the delegation that Punjab’s doors are wide open for their investment. She warmly welcomed them, emphasizing that there are profitable opportunities for Saudi investors in Punjab, particularly in agriculture, livestock, IT, and telecommunications sectors. She also assured the Saudi delegation that the Punjab government would fully support their investments in energy, industry, tourism and textiles. She highlighted the deep bond between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, acknowledging Saudi Arabia’s invaluable support during Pakistan’s challenging times.
Education holds paramount importance for the progress of any society, and Maryam Nawaz, keeping her e-vision in mind, held a special meeting with a 36-member delegation of students from “Baidaari.” The delegation was led by Baidaari’s CEO, Ambareen Ajaib, who briefed the Chief Minister Punjab about the organization’s services. Throughout the meeting, Maryam Nawaz displayed great warmth and affection towards the students, seating the special students close to her. She also announced the celebration of International Day of Girls in all schools across Punjab. Responding to the students’ request for motorbikes to ease their commute for educational purposes, the people-centric Chief Minister immediately accepted their demand, announcing the provision of tablets and e-bikes.
Maryam Nawaz also shared that the Punjab government is working on scholarships, laptops, e-bikes, and other projects for students, which will soon be completed. Additionally, she briefed the students on the CM School Meal Program and the Safety App, discussing their significance. The students, in turn, praised Maryam Nawaz’s initiatives, expressing hope that her continued efforts would help transform the future of Punjab.
One of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz’s defining traits is her reputation for revolutionary initiatives aimed at the welfare of Punjab and its people. Keeping past terrorism incidents in mind, she held meetings with police officials to ensure peace in Punjab and issued directives to maintain law and order. History bears witness that during the sacred month of Muharram, miscreants have often attempted to sow discord between Shia and Sunni communities through conspiracies. These troublemakers have targeted innocent Muslims during processions, striving to create unrest in the province. In light of this, Maryam Nawaz ordered security forces to implement foolproof measures for Muharram, particularly on the Day of Ashura. Acting on these instructions, the police and other security agencies enforced strict security measures throughout the province. Special monitoring of religious gatherings and processions ensured that the month passed peacefully, with no reports of any untoward incidents.
Punjab, like the rest of the country, is not immune to the effects of climate change. In the past, with the onset of winter, thick smog would envelop the skies over Punjab, causing severe environmental consequences. This led to numerous health issues among the public, disrupting daily life and business activities. Understanding the gravity of the situation, Maryam Nawaz swiftly established an Anti-Smog Squad, equipping it with vehicles, motorcycles, and other necessary gear to tackle the root causes of smog. Her goal was to create a cleaner, healthier environment where people could breathe in fresh air and avoid respiratory diseases. She also announced that smog would be introduced as a subject in schools, with a dedicated theme on the issue every month in government schools, ensuring public awareness and helping prevent related illnesses. In a key meeting, the Chief Minister Punjab was informed that factories emitting smoke were being monitored via cameras, and in Kasur, rice mills had been equipped with smoke control devices. Furthermore, vehicles emitting smoke were being e-mapped to guarantee that all efforts toward a cleaner environment were thoroughly enforced.
With Maryam Nawaz as Chief Minister, Punjab now benefits from a sincere and dynamic leadership deeply committed to serving its people. The trust Punjab’s citizens placed in her during the general elections is proof that she has emerged as a genuine leader whom the public holds in high regard. After years of injustice in this province, there is now hope that under Maryam Nawaz’s leadership, Punjab will embark on a new era of unprecedented progress and prosperity. Her efforts have not only been recognized within Pakistan but have garnered praise from political figures around the world. They have noted that the pace of development in Punjab is becoming a shining example for other nations. Maryam Nawaz is a fearless and determined leader who works tirelessly for the province’s advancement, and soon, Punjab will be counted among the world’s leading regions for development and prosperity, with its success becoming a global benchmark.
