Street crime is a loose term for criminal offenses committed in public places. Today, street crimes are common in Pakistan. It usually occurs in busy business areas and on highways. Pick-picking, snatching mobile phones, snatching purses, car and auto-snatching gun points, target killings, snatching purses from women are all street crimes.
Street crime affects our neighborhood and our society. These crimes are contributing to the destruction of our society, our cities and our streets.
Nowadays, everyone has their own story of snatching mobile phones and wallets. Most people have experienced street crimes. But the police do not take any action against these thieves and it has become a growing threat to the citizens. Nowadays no one’s life and property is safe.
The main causes are unemployment, illiteracy, poverty but there are some other factors such as lawlessness, fundamentalism, backwardness and double standards in society.
The government should take serious steps to control street crimes. For example, we need to be more vigilant in tackling unemployment, providing education to the poor and protecting the freedom of life of citizens and making Pakistan a peaceful country.
