Food safety authorities carried out a major operation in Lahore, destroying 1,400 kilograms of expired frozen meat during inspections in the Kahna Nau and Sundar Road areas. The crackdown was conducted by teams of the Punjab Food Authority as part of their ongoing efforts to ensure safe food standards and protect public health across the province.
According to officials, the inspection teams also seized 900 kilograms of gram, 80 kilograms of gram flour, and 100 kilograms of corn from the premises. Along with the food items, equipment including a grinding machine and a weighing scale was confiscated during the raid.
Authorities stated that the food production unit was found violating multiple food safety regulations. The Director General of the Punjab Food Authority revealed that the mill had been producing poor-quality besan and illegally mixing corn flour to increase quantity. Such practices pose serious health risks to consumers and are strictly prohibited under food safety laws.
Following the discovery, the unit was immediately sealed to prevent further production and distribution of unsafe food products. The expired frozen meat was destroyed on the spot to ensure it did not reach consumers.
Food Authority officials reiterated that strict monitoring will continue across Lahore and other parts of Punjab. They warned that no leniency would be shown toward those involved in food adulteration or the sale of expired products, emphasizing that public health remains a top priority.
The authority also urged citizens to report suspicious food-related activities so timely action can be taken against violators.
