2 Cops Martyred in Suicide Attack at Dajil Checkpost in Bhakkar

BHAKKAR/LAHORE: Two policemen were martyred and several others, including civilians, were injured in a suicide bombing at the Dajil Inter-Provincial Checkpost in Punjab’s Bhakkar district on Tuesday evening, police officials confirmed.

According to police sources, the suicide attacker approached the checkpost during a routine search operation and detonated explosives near security personnel.

Punjab Inspector General (IG) Police Abdul Kareem confirmed that Constable Muhammad Faheem Abbas and Constable Muhammad Shahbaz Madni embraced martyrdom while performing their duty. Another officer, Constable Muhammad Arshad, along with three passersby, sustained injuries in the blast and were immediately shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Bhakkar for treatment.

The IG Police described the sacrifice of the martyrs as a shining example of bravery, courage, and unwavering devotion to duty. He directed authorities to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured officer and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

The Dajil checkpost, located near the border of Dera Ismail Khan and Bhakkar, is considered a sensitive inter-provincial security point. Officials stated that law enforcement personnel were conducting routine checks to maintain law and order when the attack occurred.

President Asif Ali Zardari strongly condemned the terrorist attack, expressing deep grief over the loss of police personnel and offering condolences to the families of the martyrs. He also prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed profound sorrow over the incident and reiterated the government’s firm commitment to eliminating terrorism from the country. He stated that the sacrifices of law enforcement personnel would not go in vain.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif also condemned the attack and paid tribute to the martyred officers. She directed authorities to ensure the injured receive the best medical treatment.

The incident highlights the continued security challenges faced by Pakistan and the sacrifices made by law enforcement agencies in safeguarding the nation. Security forces have intensified counter-terrorism measures in the region to prevent further incidents.

Authorities reaffirmed that terrorist elements would not succeed in destabilizing the country and that operations against militant networks would continue with full force.
