Saudi Defence Minister Meets Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir in Riyadh to Discuss Regional Security

Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Asim Munir held an important meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman in Riyadh to discuss defence cooperation and the evolving regional security situation.

The meeting took place amid rising tensions in the Gulf region and focused on recent developments involving Iran and its actions affecting regional stability. Both leaders discussed the security challenges facing the region and emphasized the need for restraint to avoid further escalation.

During the meeting, Prince Khalid bin Salman expressed concern over Iranian attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and warned that such actions could undermine peace and stability across the Gulf region. He noted that defence cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia continues to strengthen under the Joint Strategic Defence Agreement signed by the two countries.

Saudi officials present during the meeting included Fayyadh bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili, Chief of General Staff of the Saudi Armed Forces, and Hisham bin Abdulaziz bin Saif, adviser to the Saudi defence minister on intelligence matters.

The Pakistani delegation included senior military officials, including Muhammad Javed Tariq, who accompanied the army chief during the discussions.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence cooperation and maintaining peace and stability in the region. The leaders stressed the importance of continuous coordination, communication, and strategic cooperation to prevent misunderstandings and reduce the risk of conflict escalation.

The talks follow the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in September last year. Under this agreement, both countries pledged that any aggression against one nation would be considered an attack against both, highlighting the deep strategic partnership between the two allies.

Officials also emphasized that diplomatic dialogue and careful decision-making are essential to managing tensions in the Gulf region and ensuring long-term regional stability.
