Bahrain has temporarily closed its airspace due to rising tensions in the Middle East, forcing airlines to adjust their flight operations and divert routes through alternative airports.
According to official airline statements, the closure of Bahraini airspace came as a precautionary security measure amid increasing military activity and geopolitical tensions in the region.
As a result, one of the region’s major airlines has shifted several international flights to King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. The airport is now serving as a temporary operational hub to ensure that international travel routes remain active despite the disruption.
The airline confirmed that special flights have been arranged from Dammam Airport to several major global destinations including London, Manchester, Singapore, Mumbai, and Bangkok. These flights were organized quickly to help passengers continue their journeys after the sudden airspace closure caused delays and disruptions.
In addition to international routes, a special flight from Dammam to Karachi has also been scheduled to assist passengers traveling to Pakistan who were affected by the unexpected change in flight routes.
Airline officials further revealed that aircraft that had been stranded in various countries due to the sudden closure of Bahraini airspace have been repositioned to Dammam Airport. This strategic move allows the airline to maintain partial connectivity and continue essential international operations.
Aviation experts say such route adjustments are common during geopolitical crises, as airlines prioritize passenger safety and operational continuity.
Flights to destinations such as London, Mumbai, and Bangkok are expected to continue operating from Dammam according to the airline’s updated schedule.
Interestingly, the airline also mentioned that these emergency measures are particularly important as travel demand increases ahead of the upcoming Eid holidays.
