Security forces successfully foiled a major militant attack on a checkpoint in Bajaur district, killing 12 terrorists during an intense exchange of fire, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The incident occurred on February 16 when militants belonging to the banned group Fitna-al-Khawarij launched an assault on a security checkpoint. Troops responded swiftly, engaging the attackers in a fierce gun battle that resulted in the elimination of 12 militants.
After failing to breach the checkpoint, the attackers rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the boundary wall, triggering a powerful blast. The explosion led to the martyrdom of 11 security personnel.
ISPR stated that the blast also caused damage to nearby residential buildings. A young girl lost her life, while seven other civilians, including women and children, sustained injuries. Immediate medical assistance was provided to the affected families.
Security forces have intensified operations in the area, launching search and clearance operations to eliminate any remaining militants and ensure the safety of local residents.
In a separate development, a joint operation by the Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Karachi’s Korangi area led to the arrest of three alleged facilitators linked to militant networks. Officials said the suspects were planning attacks on sensitive locations in the city.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating terrorism and maintaining peace across the country.
