Bangladesh’s newly appointed Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and State Minister Shama Obaed Islam have thanked Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar for his warm congratulations on their new appointments, signaling a positive step toward strengthening diplomatic relations between the two countries.
According to Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the country attaches high importance to its relationship with Pakistan and looks forward to expanding cooperation based on mutual respect, understanding, and shared regional interests.
Earlier, Ishaq Dar personally congratulated both ministers and praised Dr. Rahman’s diplomatic experience and commitment to regional peace, stability, and connectivity. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s intention to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation with Bangladesh in key areas.
Dar also expressed his eagerness to work closely with State Minister Shama Obaed Islam, noting that stronger coordination would help advance regional peace and mutually beneficial initiatives between the two nations.
The diplomatic developments come after Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman formed his first cabinet following the recent political transition. Rahman was sworn in alongside newly elected lawmakers and appointed Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, a veteran politician and former commerce minister, to oversee economic affairs while retaining the defense portfolio himself.
Rahman succeeded an interim administration led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, whose government remained in power for 18 months after the 2024 political transition that followed the removal of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Observers believe the renewed diplomatic engagement between Pakistan and Bangladesh could open new avenues for economic cooperation, regional connectivity, and political dialogue in South Asia.
