Drone Intercepted Near PAF Base in Rawalpindi Amid Rising Pakistan-Afghanistan Tensions

A drone-like object was intercepted near a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) base in Rawalpindi, raising concerns amid escalating tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The incident reportedly took place in the Chaklala area early Tuesday morning, where residents observed unusual activity and heard a loud explosion around 6:50 am.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing smoke rising from a rooftop after the blast, with videos circulating on social media showing the aftermath near power lines.

According to observers, fighter jets were seen flying overhead, while air defence systems appeared to successfully intercept and neutralize the drone in what was described as a “hard kill.”

Fortunately, no casualties or major damage were immediately reported following the incident.

The development comes at a time of increasing strain between Pakistan and Afghanistan, following recent cross-border incidents.

The reported drone interception occurred shortly after Afghan authorities accused Pakistan of conducting airstrikes in Kabul.

Afghan officials alleged that a drug rehabilitation hospital was targeted, claiming significant casualties.

However, Pakistani authorities rejected these allegations, calling them false and misleading, and maintained that their operations were aimed only at militant-linked targets.

Tensions between the two neighboring countries have escalated in recent weeks due to cross-border attacks and retaliatory strikes.

The situation worsened after a ceasefire reportedly brokered by Qatar in October collapsed, leading to renewed hostilities.

Officials have also linked recent drone incursions in Pakistan to militant groups operating from Afghan territory, further intensifying security concerns.

The latest incident highlights the fragile security environment in the region and raises questions about airspace security and cross-border conflict management.

Authorities are expected to continue monitoring the situation closely to prevent further escalation.
