Islamabad to Get 100 Rainwater Recharge Wells Under CDA Water Improvement Plan

The Capital Development Authority has unveiled a major initiative to improve water management in Islamabad, announcing plans to construct around 100 rainwater recharge wells across the city.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Muhammad Ali Randhawa at CDA Headquarters, where officials reviewed ongoing and future water-related projects aimed at addressing the capital’s growing water challenges.

As part of the comprehensive plan, the CDA will also construct 20 water storage tanks and implement modern monitoring systems such as SCADA and flow meters to ensure efficient water distribution. These technologies will help authorities monitor water supply in real-time and improve transparency in the system.

A key focus of the initiative is groundwater recharge and rainwater conservation. The construction of recharge wells is expected to help restore declining groundwater levels and reduce the wastage of rainwater. Authorities have also been directed to strictly enforce rooftop rainwater harvesting, which is already mandatory under CDA building bylaws.

In addition, the meeting reviewed improvements in water tanker services and public complaint mechanisms. A digital dashboard system has been introduced to streamline operations and respond more effectively to citizen complaints regarding water supply.

The CDA is also making progress on major dam projects, including the Shahdra Dam and Dotara Dam, along with plans to establish sewage treatment plants along Korang Nullah to improve environmental conditions.

Officials emphasized the importance of setting clear timelines for project completion, ensuring that Islamabad residents benefit from a modern, efficient, and sustainable water supply system in the near future.
