4.0 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Karachi, Residents Feel Tremors Across City

A mild earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale shook Karachi on Friday, causing panic among residents in several areas of the city.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the tremors were felt in multiple neighborhoods, including Landhi, Khurramabad, Malir, and Korangi.

Many residents rushed out of their homes and offices as the sudden shaking disrupted normal activities across the metropolis.

Officials from the National Seismic Monitoring Centre confirmed that the earthquake occurred at a depth of approximately 10 kilometres.

The epicentre of the quake was located nearly 100 kilometres south of Karachi.

Authorities stated that despite the panic caused by the tremors, there were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage.

Karachi has experienced several small earthquakes in recent months.

Earlier on March 10, 2026, a 3.2 magnitude earthquake was recorded in parts of the city, including Malir, at a depth of around 35 kilometres.

Seismic activity has also been reported in other regions of Pakistan this year.

On January 19, 2026, a stronger earthquake measuring 5.8 magnitude struck Islamabad and nearby areas. The tremors were also felt in Swat and Hunza, where more than 100 houses were partially damaged.

Experts explain that Pakistan frequently experiences earthquakes because the country lies along the boundary where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates meet.

This geological positioning makes several regions in Pakistan vulnerable to seismic activity.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely while advising residents to remain calm and follow safety guidelines during earthquake tremors.
