A case has been registered against Haleem Adil Sheikh and more than 100 workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf following a protest in Karachi’s Red Zone that allegedly turned violent.
According to police reports, at least 24 PTI workers were arrested during the protest, including former MNAs Alamgir Khan and Dawa Khan. The first information report (FIR) was registered at Artillery Maidan police station on behalf of the state.
Authorities stated that around 150 PTI supporters gathered at Fawara Chowk under the leadership of Haleem Adil Sheikh and attempted to march toward the Karachi Press Club. Despite being informed about the enforcement of Section 144 in the Red Zone, protesters allegedly continued their movement.
Police claimed that the situation escalated when demonstrators became agitated and started pelting stones at officers. In response, law enforcement used tear gas to disperse the crowd and restore order.
The FIR includes multiple charges such as violation of Section 144, rioting, vandalism, and attacks on police personnel. Several individuals, including women, were taken into custody during the operation, while others managed to flee.
The protest was organised by PTI against the recent increase in petroleum prices, which followed rising global oil prices linked to regional tensions involving Iran and the United States.
Security was heightened across Karachi, with heavy police deployment at key locations including Numaish Chowrangi, Teen Talwar, and Gulistan-e-Jauhar, to prevent further unrest.
The incident highlights growing political tensions and public reaction to inflation and fuel price hikes in Pakistan.
