Kohat Doctor Killing: Police Release Suspects’ Photos, Seek Public Help

Police in Kohat have released photographs of two men wanted in connection with the murder of Dr Mehwish Hasnain, as authorities intensify efforts to arrest the suspects in what has become a high-profile case.

According to Kohat Police, the suspects have been identified as Hayat Gul and Saif Ali Khan. Both men have reportedly been in hiding since the incident. District Police Officer Shahbaz Elahi said the suspects were identified through multiple pieces of evidence collected during the investigation.

Police officials stated that the two accused are close friends and are believed to have planned the attack. Authorities confirmed that raids have been conducted at various locations to trace their whereabouts, while search operations continue across the district.

Investigators revealed that the main suspect, Hayat Gul, had earlier been involved in a dispute with Dr Mehwish at a local hospital regarding the medical examination of a patient. Officials believe this argument may be linked to the motive behind the killing.

According to initial findings, after Iftar, when Dr Mehwish was leaving the hospital and heading home, unidentified attackers opened fire on her a short distance from the facility. She died at the scene, sparking protests and widespread public anger over the killing of a healthcare professional.

Authorities have appealed to citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies. Police urged the public to share any information regarding the suspects’ whereabouts with the nearest police station or through the official helpline, assuring that informants’ identities would be kept confidential.

Investigations remain ongoing as law enforcement agencies continue efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
