Senior politician Nawabzada Lashkari Raisani has stated that the Balochistan High Court has not yet received a written order regarding the suspension of the Mines and Minerals Act, despite an earlier announcement by the provincial government.
Speaking to the media outside the Balochistan High Court in Quetta after a court hearing on the petition challenging the Act, Raisani highlighted that the written executive order halting the implementation of the law has still not been presented to the court.
He explained that this issue was raised during the third hearing of the case, where the court again noted the absence of the official written order.
Raisani was accompanied by members of his legal team, including Barrister Mohammad Iqbal Kakar, Advocate Mohammad Riaz Ahmed, and Advocate Syed Nazir Agha, along with supporters who attended the hearing.
During his media talk, Raisani expressed appreciation for his legal team and supporters for their continued presence and support during the court proceedings.
He also criticized the process through which the Mines and Minerals Act was passed in the Balochistan Assembly. According to him, the legislation was introduced and approved in a secretive manner and was implemented quickly after receiving approval from the provincial governor.
Raisani further referred to a previous joint press conference in which the Balochistan chief minister and the opposition leader had announced that the implementation of the Act had been halted through an executive order.
However, he stressed that the court still requires the official written document confirming the suspension before acknowledging the government’s decision.
The petition challenging the Mines and Minerals Act remains under review by the Balochistan High Court. Petitioners are demanding transparency and proper legislative procedures regarding the approval and implementation of the law.
The case continues to attract political and legal attention in the province as stakeholders debate the implications of the mining legislation and its potential impact on Balochistan’s natural resources.
