Mentally Challenged Man Shot by Indian BSF Laid to Rest in Kasur Village

A 35-year-old mentally challenged man from Kasur, Mustafa Ahmed, who was shot dead by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel after allegedly crossing the border by mistake, was laid to rest in his ancestral village Shamkot Jhugian on Saturday night.

According to local police officials, Mustafa Ahmed had travelled with his family to Gadoki village, located near the Zero Line within the jurisdiction of Mustafabad Police Station, on March 9 to visit relatives.

Family members said that Ahmed left the house late at night without informing anyone and unintentionally crossed the border into Indian territory.

According to the family, personnel of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) attempted to stop him and issued warnings.

However, Ahmed reportedly did not respond to the warnings due to his mental condition. The BSF personnel then opened fire, resulting in his death at the scene.

Following the incident, Pakistani authorities contacted their Indian counterparts and requested the return of Ahmed’s body.

The body was handed over to Pakistani officials on Saturday and later transported to his hometown.

Mustafa Ahmed was buried in Shamkot Jhugian village, located within the limits of Chunian Police Station in Kasur district.

The funeral was attended by relatives, local residents, and community members who expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident.

Family members stated that Ahmed had a mental disability and had unknowingly crossed the border, emphasizing that the crossing was accidental.

The incident has once again highlighted the risks faced by civilians living near the Pakistan–India border, where strict security measures are in place.

Residents in border areas often face challenges due to the sensitive nature of the region, particularly when individuals accidentally cross the boundary.

The tragic case has also drawn attention to concerns regarding the safety of civilians and the handling of such incidents along the border.

Authorities have reiterated the importance of coordination between both countries to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
