Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a comprehensive plan to introduce uniform infrastructure and design standards across the province under the policy titled “One Punjab, One Standard.” The initiative aims to improve the quality of development and establish a consistent urban identity throughout Punjab.
The decision was taken during a special meeting held in Lahore, where officials briefed the chief minister on proposals for standardising roads, public spaces, and government buildings. Under the new policy, roads, green belts, footpaths, signboards, and highways across the province will follow the same design guidelines.
The plan also includes uniform architectural standards for public institutions such as schools, hospitals, bus stops, and other government facilities. Authorities discussed the creation of an autonomous body to oversee infrastructure standardisation and urban design reforms to ensure consistent implementation across all districts.
In addition, proposals were reviewed to introduce consistent designs for roadside kiosks and small shop cabins along highways. Officials believe this will improve aesthetics, safety, and functionality while reducing visual clutter.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed the relevant departments to prepare a detailed design manual covering all aspects of the initiative. She stated that disciplined development enhances both beauty and efficiency, adding that from major cities to smaller districts, streets and public spaces should present an orderly and attractive environment.
She further emphasised that public institutions must reflect modern planning principles and quality construction, noting that the “One Punjab, One Standard” policy would help transform the overall look and organisation of cities and towns across the province.
