Conference Urges Joint Action to Tackle Pakistan’s Water Crisis and Climate Challenges

A major conference held in Islamabad has called for urgent and coordinated action to address Pakistan’s growing water crisis and climate vulnerability.

The Pakistan Water Stewardship Conference 2026 brought together representatives from government, industry, academia, and international organisations to discuss sustainable water management strategies. The event was organised by WWF-Pakistan in collaboration with Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources and Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Participants emphasized that water scarcity and climate challenges cannot be addressed by a single institution alone. Instead, a collective and inclusive approach involving all stakeholders is necessary to ensure long-term solutions.

Officials highlighted that Pakistan remains among the countries most vulnerable to climate change, facing repeated extreme weather events over the past two decades. These events have caused significant economic losses and affected millions of people.

Speakers stressed the importance of protecting freshwater resources, improving water management systems, and strengthening community resilience against climate-related risks.

The conference also focused on promoting partnerships, sharing knowledge, and identifying scalable solutions to tackle water-related challenges effectively.

Experts believe that addressing Pakistan’s water crisis is critical for sustainable development, as water security directly impacts agriculture, industry, and everyday life.

The event concluded with a strong call for joint efforts to safeguard water resources and build a climate-resilient future for Pakistan.
