PPP Cancels Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Gathering for Bhutto’s Anniversary

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has decided to cancel its central gathering at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh for the martyrdom anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, scheduled on April 4.

Decision by PPP Leadership

The decision was taken on the directives of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, citing the prevailing regional situation.

PPP leadership emphasised that while the central event has been cancelled, the party remains committed to honouring its founder’s legacy.

District-Level Observances

Instead of a large central gathering, the party has announced that:

  • Observances will be held at the district level

  • Quran Khawanis will be organised across the country

  • Party workers and leaders will participate locally

The move ensures that the anniversary is marked in a simple and respectful manner.

Change in Tradition

The annual gathering at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh is traditionally one of the most significant events for PPP, attracting large crowds from across Pakistan.

This year’s cancellation marks a major shift in party strategy, opting for decentralised commemorations.

Reason Behind Cancellation

PPP Secretary General Humayun Khan stated that the decision was made in view of the current regional situation, requiring a more cautious approach.

Honouring Bhutto’s Legacy

Despite the change in plans, PPP leadership has reiterated its commitment to remembering the contributions of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto through peaceful and organised activities nationwide.
