The Punjab government has announced the implementation of a work-from-home policy for government offices as part of a broader set of austerity measures introduced in response to the ongoing regional crisis and rising economic pressures.
The decision was announced by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who stated that the policy aims to reduce operational costs and conserve fuel resources during the current petroleum challenges.
Under the new directive, government offices across Punjab will adopt work-from-home arrangements, allowing only essential staff to attend workplaces. The move is intended to reduce daily commuting and limit fuel consumption associated with official transportation.
In addition to the remote work policy, the provincial government has introduced several fuel-saving measures affecting government officials and ministers.
According to the announcement, the official fuel supply allocated to provincial ministers has been suspended until the current petroleum crisis subsides. Authorities believe this step will contribute to reducing government expenditures during the challenging economic situation.
Furthermore, petrol and diesel allowances for vehicles used by government officers have been immediately reduced by 50 percent as part of the austerity plan.
The government has also imposed a ban on protocol vehicles that usually accompany provincial ministers and senior government officials. Under the revised policy, only one vehicle will be permitted to accompany ministers and senior officials for unavoidable security reasons.
Officials stated that these measures are designed to limit unnecessary fuel consumption and demonstrate responsible governance during a time of economic uncertainty.
The work-from-home arrangement for public offices is expected to remain in place while the government continues to monitor the evolving situation and assess the effectiveness of the new policies.
Authorities have urged government departments and employees to cooperate fully with the new measures to ensure smooth implementation and to help conserve national resources.
