Pakistan Tightens Security banning Terror Threats, Centre & Provinces Form Joint Strategy

Amid growing concerns over escalating terror threats, Pakistan’s federal and provincial governments have agreed on a comprehensive joint strategy aimed at ensuring peace and stability across the country. Enhanced security measures have been implemented nationwide following recent attacks and cross-border tensions.

The decision was made during a high-level law and order meeting chaired by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry.

Heightened Security After Rising Threats

Speaking after the meeting, Talal Chaudhry confirmed that security forces are on high alert following air strikes conducted along the Afghanistan border. He stated that intelligence-based operations have intensified to preempt potential retaliatory attacks by militant groups.

According to officials, terrorist incidents have surged particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where security forces have recently conducted targeted operations.

“Our forces remain fully prepared to counter any attack,” Chaudhry said, adding that multiple suspects — including foreign nationals — have been arrested in recent operations.

Recent Attacks Raise Alarm

Security concerns escalated following recent attacks in different regions. An ambush in Kohat claimed the lives of six policemen, including a senior officer. Meanwhile, a suicide bombing at a checkpoint in Bhakkar resulted in two police casualties.

Authorities believe that some attacks were planned outside Pakistan and have reiterated calls for regional cooperation to combat cross-border terrorism.

Intelligence Alerts and Nationwide Crackdown

Intelligence agencies have issued warnings regarding possible attacks targeting urban centers, markets, security installations, and places of worship. As a result:

  • Search operations have nearly doubled nationwide

  • Intelligence-based operations have accelerated

  • Suspected militants and facilitators have been detained

  • Security presence has been increased in sensitive areas

Officials confirmed that enhanced surveillance and rapid response mechanisms are now in effect.

Federal-Provincial Coordination Strengthened

During the meeting, the federal government assured provinces of full technical and operational support to maintain law and order. The session was attended by senior officials, including interior ministry representatives, inspector generals of police, provincial home secretaries, and the Islamabad administration.

Chaudhry emphasized that protecting citizens’ lives and property remains the state’s top priority and praised security forces for their continued sacrifices.

Terror Incidents on the Rise

According to data from the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data (ACLED), terror incidents in Pakistan have risen sharply over recent years. Attacks have nearly quadrupled between 2022 and 2025, reflecting the growing security challenge faced by the country.

Authorities, however, remain confident that coordinated federal and provincial efforts will help curb terrorism and restore stability.
