Well-known Pakistani poet, naat reciter, and public speaker Syed Salman Gilani passed away in Lahore at the age of 74 following a prolonged illness, his family confirmed on Saturday. According to relatives, he had been battling health complications for some time, and his condition deteriorated in recent days despite medical treatment.
Gilani was receiving treatment at Sheikh Zayed Hospital for heart and liver complications. Family members stated that doctors made every possible effort to stabilise his health, but he could not recover.
Throughout his life, Gilani earned immense respect in both literary and religious circles. His heartfelt naat recitations touched the hearts of thousands across Pakistan. Admirers often praised his simple yet deeply emotional style, which made his poetry accessible and meaningful to audiences of all ages. His devotional poetry was frequently recited at religious gatherings, while his humorous verses also gained popularity among listeners.
His funeral prayers are scheduled to be offered after Zuhr at Jamia Ashrafia, where relatives, students, admirers, and members of the literary community are expected to gather in large numbers to pay their final respects.
Expressing sorrow over his passing, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), described Gilani as a respected religious poet whose work positively influenced many people. He offered prayers for the departed soul and extended condolences to the grieving family.
Syed Salman Gilani’s passing marks the end of an era for many who cherished his spiritual poetry and eloquent speeches. His contributions to religious literature and naat recitation will continue to inspire future generations.
