Total Lunar Eclipse Visible in Pakistan Today – Timings and Viewing Details

Total Lunar Eclipse Visible in Pakistan Today

The first total lunar eclipse of the year will take place today, offering skywatchers across Pakistan a chance to witness one of the most captivating astronomical events of 2026.

According to officials at the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the eclipse will unfold in multiple stages throughout the day.

The penumbral phase will begin at 1:44 PM (PST), marking the moment when the Moon starts moving into Earth’s outer shadow. The partial eclipse will follow at 2:50 PM, as a darker shadow gradually covers part of the lunar surface.

The total eclipse is expected to commence at 4:05 PM, when Earth’s shadow fully engulfs the Moon. During this phase, the Moon may appear deep red or copper-colored — a phenomenon commonly known as the “Blood Moon.” This striking color occurs due to sunlight filtering through Earth’s atmosphere.

The eclipse will reach its maximum at 4:34 PM, providing the most dramatic view of the event. The total phase will begin to end at 5:03 PM, after which the Moon will gradually emerge from the shadow.

The partial phase will conclude at 6:17 PM, while the penumbral phase will finally end at 7:23 PM.

Astronomy enthusiasts in Pakistan may observe part of the eclipse at moonrise, when the Moon appears in the evening sky still partially covered by Earth’s shadow. Experts advise viewers to choose open areas away from city lights for better visibility.

Unlike solar eclipses, lunar eclipses are completely safe to watch with the naked eye and do not require special protective equipment. However, binoculars or small telescopes can enhance the experience by revealing greater detail on the Moon’s surface.
