A shortage of the meningococcal vaccine in Peshawar has created serious problems for people planning to travel abroad. Many residents have reported that the vaccine, which is mandatory for entry into several countries under international health regulations, is currently unavailable at government health centers across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in the provincial capital.
The meningococcal vaccine is a compulsory requirement for travelers heading to certain destinations. Without receiving the vaccine and obtaining an official vaccination certificate, passengers are not allowed to board flights or enter specific countries. Due to the shortage in Peshawar, many individuals have been forced to travel to other provinces to get vaccinated, increasing their financial burden and causing delays.
Even after managing to receive the vaccine from private clinics or facilities outside the province, travelers say they face further difficulties. In order to obtain an official vaccination certificate, they must visit government offices, where some have reported being asked for additional documents, including vaccine purchase receipts. These extra requirements have made the process complicated and time-consuming.
Citizens have expressed frustration over the situation, stating that such an essential vaccine should be easily available at local health centers. Instead, they are dealing with long queues, unclear procedures, and a lack of proper information. For students, overseas workers, pilgrims, and others with urgent travel plans, these obstacles can result in missed flights, delayed visas, and increased stress.
The issue has become even more concerning as it coincides with a busy travel period. Many residents have raised questions about weaknesses in the vaccine supply chain and have called on authorities to address the issue immediately.
Travelers are now urging health officials to ensure a steady supply of the meningococcal vaccine in Peshawar and across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They have also demanded that the certification process be made simple, transparent, and efficient. Citizens emphasize that they are not seeking special treatment, but rather smooth access to a basic health requirement necessary for safe and lawful international travel.
