The federal government has announced a fixed wheat price of Rs3,500 per 40 kilograms in a bid to support farmers and stabilize market rates across Pakistan. The decision was taken during a meeting of the National Wheat Oversight Committee, which reviewed the current wheat stock situation and future procurement plans.
The meeting was chaired by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, with officials from all provinces in attendance. During the briefing, provincial representatives shared updates on wheat reserves and assured that sufficient stocks are available to meet public demand until the arrival of the new harvest.
By setting the wheat procurement price at Rs3,500 per 40kg, the government aims to provide financial security to farmers by ensuring fair returns for their crops. Officials stated that a fixed price helps growers plan their production with confidence while also preventing sudden price fluctuations in the open market.
At the same time, authorities believe the move will help control flour prices and protect consumers from rising food costs. Provincial governments have been directed to implement the new pricing mechanism smoothly and manage procurement responsibly according to their local systems.
The government has also instructed authorities to closely monitor market conditions, particularly as demand for wheat products continues to rise. Strict action will be taken against hoarding and artificial shortages to maintain price stability and public trust.
In addition to the immediate price decision, officials revealed that work is underway on a long-term national wheat policy. The proposed framework aims to improve transparency, modernize procurement systems, strengthen supply chain management, and enhance coordination between federal and provincial governments. Authorities believe these measures will contribute to long-term food security and agricultural stability in Pakistan.
