Key Militant Commander Killed as CTD Team Ambushed in Bannu

A key militant commander was killed during a gun battle after a Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) team was ambushed by armed militants in Bannu on Sunday, officials confirmed. The incident underscores the persistent security challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in the region.

According to CTD officials, the investigation team was traveling to identify a crime scene linked to a recent attack on North Waziristan Assistant Commissioner Shah Wali Khan when militants launched an assault. Authorities said the attackers attempted to free a detained militant commander during the ambush.

During the exchange of fire, the detained commander, identified as Usama alias Daniyal alias Baghi, was killed. Officials stated that he was an active member and alleged mastermind of a newly formed militant group, Ittehad-ul-Mujahideen Pakistan.

Authorities further confirmed that another militant, Kamyab Khan alias Ikhlas Yar, a resident of Kabul Khel Shewa in North Waziristan, was also killed in retaliatory firing by security personnel. The attackers fled the scene after the gun battle, reportedly taking their injured accomplices with them.

Security forces recovered a Kalashnikov rifle, two magazines, and two hand grenades from the possession of the deceased militant commander. Officials said the recovered weapons indicate the attackers were well-armed and prepared for a violent confrontation.

Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Zulfiqar Hameed and Additional Inspector General CTD praised the CTD personnel for their swift and courageous response. The IG stated that terrorists serve no cause and often turn against their own associates for personal interests.

Authorities have launched further investigations into the incident and reiterated their commitment to eliminating militant networks and ensuring public safety across the province.
