46 Bills Passed as National Assembly Strengthens Oversight and Accountability

The 16th National Assembly of Pakistan has successfully concluded its second parliamentary year, marking a period of significant legislative progress and strengthened oversight.

During the year, lawmakers passed a total of 46 bills into law, including 40 government bills and six private members’ bills. In addition, the House adopted 27 resolutions addressing key national issues.

A total of 159 bills were introduced during the year. Among these, 59 government bills were tabled in the lower house, while 14 bills originated from the Senate.

The Assembly held 11 sittings and three joint sessions, covering 130 working days and accumulating 237 hours and 36 minutes of proceedings. Members actively exercised oversight by submitting 7,625 questions to hold the government accountable, with 1,710 answered on the floor of the House.

Lawmakers also submitted 329 calling attention notices, of which 49 were taken up for discussion. Fifteen adjournment motions were moved, 13 of which were rejected. Out of 33 privilege motions, six were referred to standing committees, 18 remain under consideration, six were rejected, and two were withdrawn.

Under Rule 259, 263 motions were received; four were included in the Order of the Day and three were debated.

The annual budget for FY2025–26 received detailed consideration. Notably, for the first time, a joint committee comprising finance committees from both houses conducted a comprehensive review of the Finance Bill and presented recommendations after thorough deliberations.

The parliamentary year reflects an active legislative approach focused on transparency, accountability, and institutional strengthening.
