Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has launched a digital wallet-based cash relief program aimed at supporting transport operators and farmers amid rising fuel prices and economic challenges.
Under this initiative, financial assistance is being directly transferred to beneficiaries through digital wallets, ensuring transparency and efficiency in fund distribution. The relief package targets public transport operators, including buses, wagons, trucks, and goods carriers, helping them manage increased operational costs.
According to officials, the government has already started transferring funds to eligible transport vehicles as part of a technology-driven system designed to minimize delays and corruption. This approach ensures that assistance reaches the intended recipients quickly and securely.
In addition to transport operators, the government has extended relief measures to the agricultural sector. Farmers are receiving financial support on a per-acre basis to help offset rising input costs and sustain agricultural productivity.
The initiative also includes one-time financial assistance for transport operators, with specific allocations for small trucks, large trucks, and public buses. The goal is to prevent an increase in transport fares and reduce the impact on the prices of essential goods.
During a high-level meeting in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that public welfare remains a top priority. He stated that funds saved through austerity measures are being redirected to support vulnerable segments of society.
Officials also confirmed that Pakistan has sufficient petroleum reserves to meet current demand despite regional tensions. The government continues to monitor the situation closely while implementing measures to stabilize the economy.
