LONDON: Prince Andrew, younger brother of King Charles III, was released from police custody after being questioned in connection with allegations linked to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein.
The Duke of York was detained by Thames Valley Police and interrogated for several hours over claims of misconduct in public office. Authorities are investigating reports suggesting he may have shared confidential government documents during his tenure as the UK’s Special Representative for Trade and Investment.
Police confirmed that Prince Andrew has been released under investigation, meaning inquiries are ongoing and no formal charges have been filed at this stage.
The development comes after the recent release of millions of US government documents related to Epstein. Some records reportedly reference Andrew’s past communications during official visits. The Prince has previously denied wrongdoing but acknowledged that his association with Epstein was a mistake.
Senior royal sources said King Charles III expressed deep concern over the situation and emphasized that the legal process must proceed independently.
The case marks a rare and unprecedented moment in modern British royal history, as senior members of the monarchy have seldom faced such scrutiny.
