Three held over illegal telecom data breach, says NCCIA

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested three individuals accused of operating a network involved in illegally obtaining and selling sensitive telecommunication data belonging to Pakistani citizens.

According to NCCIA officials, the suspects allegedly acquired confidential telecom records and sold the information for financial gain. The data reportedly included call detail records (CDRs), SIM ownership information, family registration details, and users’ location data.

The agency said the arrests were made during an investigation initiated after the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) lodged a formal complaint regarding the alleged misuse of sensitive customer information.

Investigators traced the suspects during the inquiry and detained them on allegations of unlawfully accessing and trading private telecom data. However, officials have not disclosed the total number of affected individuals or the overall scale of the alleged breach.

The NCCIA stated that investigations are continuing to determine whether additional individuals or networks were involved in the illegal data trade. Authorities also said legal proceedings will move forward under Pakistan’s cybercrime laws.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens’ personal information and warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found involved in the unauthorized collection, sale, or misuse of confidential data.
