IESCO Starts Load Shedding Amid Petroleum Crisis and Power Shortfall

Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has initiated load management across its service areas following a temporary decline in electricity generation caused by the ongoing international petroleum crisis.

According to officials, rising petroleum prices and global supply chain disruptions have significantly impacted power generation, leading to a shortfall in electricity supply. As a result, IESCO has implemented scheduled load shedding in both urban and rural regions to balance demand and supply.

The utility stated that power outages of equal duration are being carried out across all areas under its jurisdiction on an as-needed basis. Consumers have been advised to check the official IESCO website for detailed load management schedules specific to their locations.

IESCO emphasised that the current load shedding is a temporary measure and directly linked to global energy challenges. The company also issued an apology to consumers for the inconvenience caused, urging the public to cooperate during this difficult period.

Officials noted that the ongoing petroleum crisis has affected energy systems worldwide, and Pakistan is also experiencing the impact due to its reliance on fuel imports for power generation. The reduction in electricity production has made load management necessary to maintain system stability.

The company further advised customers to contact its helpline for additional information and updates regarding outages. While no specific timeline has been provided for the end of load shedding, authorities expressed hope that the situation will improve as energy supply conditions stabilise.

This development highlights the broader impact of global energy crises on local electricity systems, affecting daily life, businesses, and economic activity across the country.
