KARACHI: A ceremonial change of guards was held at Mazar-e-Quaid on Defence and Martyrs’ Day to honour the soldiers and civilians who sacrificed their lives in defence of Pakistan.
Cadets from the Pakistan Air Force assumed guard duties at the mausoleum during the ceremony, paying tribute to the country’s armed forces and fallen heroes. Air Vice Marshal Hassan Faisal attended the event as the chief guest.
Defence and Martyrs’ Day is observed on September 6 to commemorate the events of the 1965 war, when Pakistan’s armed forces and the nation responded to an attack launched under the cover of darkness.
The 1965 conflict remains an important chapter in Pakistan’s military history, with Pakistani troops resisting a larger adversary and demonstrating determination and national resolve.
The occasion also serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces while defending the country’s sovereignty and security.
Across Pakistan, ceremonies, tributes and special programmes are being organised to remember the martyrs and recognise the services of the armed forces. The families of those who lost their lives while serving the nation are also being honoured.
