Karachi is experiencing intense weather conditions as high humidity levels combine with soaring temperatures, making the city feel significantly hotter than the actual recorded temperature. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the heat index in Karachi is expected to reach between 46°C and 47°C, creating uncomfortable and potentially dangerous conditions for residents.
While the actual daytime temperature is forecast to rise to around 37°C, the elevated humidity levels are making the weather feel much hotter. Meteorologists explain that when humidity increases, the body’s natural cooling system becomes less effective, causing temperatures to feel several degrees higher than they actually are.
On Saturday, Karachi recorded a maximum temperature of 36.6°C, continuing the ongoing spell of hot and humid weather that has affected the city in recent days. Current weather conditions show southwesterly winds blowing at approximately 25 kilometers per hour, while humidity levels remain around 63 percent.
The combination of warm temperatures, high moisture content in the air, and limited cloud cover has contributed to the rise in the heat index. Weather experts warn that such conditions can increase the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke, particularly among children, elderly individuals, outdoor workers, and people with underlying health conditions.
The PMD has confirmed that no rainfall is expected in Karachi today, meaning residents are unlikely to receive immediate relief from the prevailing weather conditions. Authorities are urging citizens to remain cautious and take preventive measures during peak daytime hours.
Health experts recommend drinking plenty of water, avoiding unnecessary outdoor activities between late morning and early evening, wearing light-colored clothing, and seeking shade whenever possible. Individuals experiencing symptoms such as dizziness, excessive sweating, weakness, or headaches should seek medical attention immediately.
As Karachi continues to face hot and humid conditions, residents are advised to stay updated with official weather forecasts and follow all safety guidelines to minimize the impact of extreme heat.
