10 Killed, 1,580 Injured in 1,270 Road Accidents Across Punjab in 24 Hours
LAHORE – A total of 10 people lost their lives while 1,580 others sustained injuries in 1,270 road traffic accidents reported across Punjab during the last 24 hours, according to official statistics released by emergency authorities.
The figures highlight the growing concern over road safety across the province, where traffic accidents continue to pose serious risks to motorists, passengers, and pedestrians. Emergency response teams remained active throughout the day, providing immediate medical assistance and transportation services to accident victims.
According to the data, 801 injured individuals were shifted to various hospitals for medical treatment, while 778 people with minor injuries received first aid and emergency care at the accident sites from Rescue Medical Teams. Quick response by emergency personnel helped ensure timely treatment for many victims and reduced the severity of injuries in several cases.
Motorcycles were involved in the majority of reported accidents, once again drawing attention to the need for greater road safety awareness among riders. Experts have frequently highlighted that motorbike users remain among the most vulnerable road users due to factors such as speeding, reckless driving, lack of protective gear, and failure to follow traffic regulations.
The accident statistics also revealed that the victims included people from various categories of road users. Among those affected were 853 adult drivers, 76 underage drivers, 120 pedestrians, and 617 passengers. The presence of underage drivers among the victims raises additional concerns regarding traffic law compliance and road safety education.
Lahore recorded the highest number of accidents in Punjab during the reporting period. The provincial capital witnessed 188 road traffic crashes that affected a total of 256 individuals. The city’s heavy traffic flow, increasing number of vehicles, and congested road networks continue to contribute to a significant share of traffic-related incidents.
Road safety experts emphasize that many traffic accidents can be prevented through responsible driving practices, strict adherence to traffic laws, and increased public awareness. Common causes of road accidents include speeding, distracted driving, reckless overtaking, violation of traffic signals, and failure to wear safety equipment such as helmets and seat belts.
Authorities continue to encourage motorists to drive carefully, maintain safe speeds, and remain attentive while using roads. Parents are also advised to prevent underage individuals from driving vehicles, as inexperienced drivers face a higher risk of involvement in serious accidents.
Emergency services and traffic management authorities regularly conduct awareness campaigns aimed at reducing accident rates and promoting safe driving habits. However, the latest statistics indicate that road safety remains a major challenge requiring continuous public cooperation and stronger enforcement of traffic regulations.
The tragic loss of lives and the large number of injuries reported within a single day serve as a reminder of the importance of responsible road behavior. Experts stress that improved traffic discipline, road safety education, and adherence to transportation laws are essential for reducing accidents and protecting lives across Punjab.
As traffic volume continues to grow throughout the province, authorities are urging all road users to prioritize safety and contribute to creating safer roads for drivers, passengers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.
