The Supreme Court of Pakistan has scheduled August 19 for the hearing of petitions filed by Imaan Mazari and Hadi Chattha seeking suspension of their sentences in a case related to controversial social media posts.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, with Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim as the second member, will hear the petitions. Notices have been issued to the parties concerned, allowing them to present their arguments before the court.

The proceedings will focus on the requests to suspend the sentences while the legal challenge continues. The Supreme Court is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the disputed social media posts, the legal basis of the sentences and the grounds presented by the applicants.

The case has attracted public attention as it involves questions surrounding social media expression and the legal consequences of online content in Pakistan. The Supreme Court’s decision on the suspension pleas could determine the immediate legal position of Imaan Mazari and Hadi Chattha.
