President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid rich tribute to Allama Muhammad Iqbal on Iqbal Day 2026, emphasizing the lasting relevance of his philosophy in shaping national life and public conduct.
In his message, President Zardari described Allama Iqbal as the “Poet of the East” and a visionary thinker who provided intellectual direction for the creation of Pakistan. He highlighted that Iqbal was not only a remarkable poet but also a powerful intellectual, moral, and spiritual guide who inspired the Muslim Ummah toward self-awareness, independence of thought, and self-respect.
The president further stated that Allama Iqbal revived hope and confidence among people during times of uncertainty, encouraging them to believe in action, progress, and possibilities. He noted that Iqbal’s ideas combined both Eastern and Western philosophies to present a balanced and forward-looking vision of society based on justice, dignity, and human potential.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his separate message, also honored Allama Iqbal and stressed the importance of implementing his teachings in today’s world. He said Iqbal’s message of selfhood, faith, and intellectual freedom remains highly relevant, especially in times marked by extremism, social challenges, and ideological confusion.
The prime minister added that Iqbal’s teachings inspire unity, love, and national awareness, urging people to adopt these values in their daily lives to build a stronger and more balanced society.
Both leaders highlighted that merely remembering Allama Iqbal is not enough—his philosophy must be practically applied to create a just, progressive, and harmonious nation.
Iqbal Day, observed on April 21 every year, serves as a reminder of the poet’s timeless vision and his contribution to the ideological foundation of Pakistan.
