The federal government has increased the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel in Pakistan by more than Rs5 per litre, adding to the pressure on consumers and businesses following a series of fuel price increases.
According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) revised the prices under the petroleum pricing mechanism approved by the federal government.
The price of high-speed diesel has been increased by Rs5.28 per litre, taking the new rate to Rs403.32 per litre. Diesel has therefore crossed the Rs400-per-litre mark under the latest adjustment.
The price of petrol has also increased by Rs5.02 per litre, with the new rate set at Rs375.82 per litre.
The revised prices will remain effective for three days, from September 12 to September 14, 2026, according to the official notification.
The latest increase comes after another adjustment announced just a day earlier. High-speed diesel had previously been increased by Rs5.37 per litre to Rs398.04, while petrol had risen by Rs3.05 per litre to Rs370.80.
The repeated increases mean motorists, transport operators and businesses are facing higher fuel expenses within a short period. Higher diesel prices can raise freight and public transport costs, while the increase in petrol prices is likely to affect daily commuting expenses for vehicle owners.
The latest adjustment is also expected to attract attention from consumers and businesses already dealing with increased household and operating costs. Fuel prices have a direct impact on transportation and can also influence the cost of moving goods and providing services.
The government has specified that the latest rates will apply only from September 12 to September 14. Further changes could therefore be considered after the three-day period, depending on international oil prices, exchange-rate movements and the applicable petroleum pricing mechanism.
During the announced period, petrol will be available at Rs375.82 per litre, while high-speed diesel will cost Rs403.32 per litre.
